There are countless times when educators need their students’ undivided attention. The following methods are best taught during the first weeks of school. These ideas can assist teachers in providing an ordered and safe learning environment for everyone.
I’m a fan of “Miss Carmody says…freeze. Miss Carmody says…eyes on me” and so on.
But I also have a Red Light sign and a Green Light sign. When the stop sign is on the board, it’s a “red light”—The kids know it is serious times and they cannot wander around the room. When there is a green, Go! sign, they know this is a time for talking with a partner, visiting the class library, sharpening pencils without asking permission…All that good stuff.
